Our Leadership Team

President of Universal Civil Construction, Ben was born and raised in the Midlands of South Carolina. Ben attended the University of South Carolina where he obtained his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Following college, Ben began his civil career as a geotechnical engineer specializing in soils and construction materials, and quickly became an asset to many developers and general contractors in the Upstate of South Carolina. He earned his licensure as a Professional Engineer in 2012. After eight valuable years in this field of the construction industry, Ben’s career changed course and he began a career with a large and highly reputable civil construction company. Here, he spent five years as a project manager and estimator, while developing many key industry relationships and developing a passion for civil sitework. Ben brings this same passion to Universal Civil Construction. Ben resides in Spartanburg, SC with his wife and three children (triplets) and enjoys spending his free time hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors with his family.

Vice President of Construction for Universal Civil Construction, RJ is a native of Montana who grew up on a farm and ranch in the central region of the state. After graduating high school RJ attended Montana Tech of the University of Montana and earned his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Following college RJ began his career with a highly respected civil and geotechnical engineering consulting firm and earned his Professional Engineer license. During this seven year period he executed work as a lab technician, resident field engineer, civil engineer and construction manager for large scale projects both domestically and internationally. The experience in the lab, field and management positions allowed him to develop the skill set necessary for fundamental understanding and complex problem solving associated with construction projects. RJ recently moved to South Carolina after having spent more than three years of his professional career in the state. He enjoys spending his free time hunting, camping, being outdoors and with close friends.

Vice President of Operations for Universal Civil Construction, Alex is a native of Ohio, who relocated to South Carolina in 2013. Alex graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Science Technology with a major in Construction Management. After graduating college Alex began his career as a foreman with a well-known heavy highway contractor in Ohio. He gained experience in the field while supervising major earthwork and grading operations on several newly constructed highways and interstates throughout the Midwest. Over time, Alex’s experience allowed him to advance his career as a superintendent, and he had the opportunity to be involved with numerous complex heavy civil construction projects requiring careful planning, resource management, and leadership of large teams of craft employees. Following his relocation to South Carolina, he continued his career with one of the leading heavy civil companies of the southeastern United States. He continued to utilize his experience and knowledge while managing field operations for complex projects in the energy, mining, landfill, and commercial sectors. Alex prides himself in working well under pressure and maximizing potential both on projects and in his employees. Alex resides in Prosperity, SC with his wife and enjoys spending time on his boat on Lake Murray. He is also an avid college football fan.

Highway Division Manager for Universal Civil Construction, Michael is a native of Georgia. Michael graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management. During college Michael began his career in heavy civil construction working at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (Atlanta) for a large heavy highway contractor. After graduating, Michael has gained experience in the highway market building and pursuing major projects across the Southeast. Over the course of his career, Michael has been in key roles on some of the largest Design Build projects in the Carolinas, gaining knowledge in the complete project lifecycle including procurement, managing design, value engineering, assembling and leading large project teams, managing field operations, and building relationships with owner/clients. His experience spans across almost all scopes of work in the Heavy Highway field with supervision and management of bridge construction, paving, earthwork, retaining walls, temporary structures, and subcontractor management. Michael prides himself in the ability to use his experiences and interpersonal skills to build successful project teams and owner/client relationships.

Michael resides in Chapin, SC with his Wife and three Kids (Sadie, Emery, and Hunter) and enjoys everything outdoors, especially fishing and boating on Lake Murray with his family and friends.
